That's it!

I AM in hell! Our A/C hasn't been keeping up very well with the 100+ degree temps. I tend to keep it on 75 and at the hottest part of the day, the house gets up to 80, so I knew that the A/C wasn't functioning at full capacity.
However, this morning at 8AM the house was 80 degrees. It's now 89 degrees. It's 100 outside and there's a breeze, so it's not that bad out there considering.
I wanted to call an HVAC repairman and get this thing fixed pronto but D wants to "take a look at it" first. Let's just be honest here. He's never fixed nor "looked at" an HVAC system in his life. He hasn't got any more clue what's wrong with it than I do. He maintains that he wants to check it out before I call anyone.

Fine!

But, and here's the fun part for me and the kids, he absolutely cannot come home before 4 PM at the earliest, probably 5. So, we get to sit here in the dark, with the blinds closed and fans on, barely dressed - until he "looks at it" and determines that he doesn't know a $*#($& thing about HVACs.
Of course, at that point, it will be the end of the work day and I'll have to swelter in here all day tomorrow too. Fun stuff.

I was playgroup host today too, and had to cancel because all those people and kids in here would have made it like an oven. Baked baby anyone?

Ugh! This is why summer is my least favorite season. I hate the heat!

Fall cannot arrive soon enough.

Why do men think that "looking" at something is somehow going to do a damn thing? I'm all about calling in the pros.

I love the "lame ass cheapo" tag in this post. And I especially love that this is not the first time you've used it.

Yes, he is indeed a lame ass cheapo. I anticipate using that tag many more times in our marriage. lol
BTW - when it got to 90 I said "Screw this!" and called a place. Of COURSE, they can't come till morning. Nice.

Good for you for taking charge of the situation. If you had waited until after business hours to call, they wouldn't have been able to come until Friday and then you would have died.

lol. this was so funny to read. He wants to look at it. lol. I admit I have "looked at" things before. Normally that means twisting a screw driver a few times, touching some parts and saying, guess we'll call someone.

Oh yeah, taking "a look at it" is part of my handyman hubby's M.O.

My A/C hasn't worked efficiently for 3 years (yeah, gotta look into that); my yard is currently torn up (mid-project for a vegetable garden -- can you say OUT OF SEASON?); we have half a set of finished bookshelves... Ok, I'm off-topic. This just got me started ...

Ugh. I would go ahead and just schedule the appointment before D looks at it. So, good for you!

We thought ours was acting funny earlier this summer, and fortunately my husband immediately called the HVAC company. They were out the next day and it was a cheaper fix than replacing it.

Your system might be totally different than ours, but in our case the a/c uses the same air system as the furnace, and so we need to change the furnace filter even when it's a/c season. We hadn't realized that. We had basically three entire cats clumped onto the filter, which is why our a/c basically wasn't working at all. We changed the filter and WHOOSH cool air.

I'm with Jess; I cracked up at the "lame ass cheapo" tag!

Oh, I so feel for you! We just got our air working today after a week without air conditioning of any kind. It has been miserable. I hope yours gets fixed much quicker! Sending you cool thoughts!

Oh gosh, to me, with a body temp about ten degrees higher than your average (unpregnant) person, the idea of a day without AC sounds like the tenth level of hell. I'm SO sorry! Heat makes me a whole different person... A lazy, grouchy slug who lays on the couch and moans intermittantly. I hope you were able to brave your way through with more grace than I would have!

no AC means it's time to go to the movies or the library or the mall or somewhere with AC! Hard to do with 2 kids to wrangle, though.

Oh, I so hope that it is fixed by now. Did D have a chance to "look at it" last night?

It is too hot to be with out AC. Poor things.
